ABC's of Breast Cancer
Breast cancer is a malignant tumor that has developed from cells of the breast. A malignant tumor is a group of cancer cells that may invade surrounding tissues or spread (metastasize) to distant areas of the body.
Most breast lumps are not cancerous, that is, they are benign. Still, many need to be biopsied (see below) to prove they are not cancer.
Medullary cancer: This special type of infiltrating breast cancer has a rather well-defined, distinct boundary between tumor tissue and normal tissue.
About 20% of new breast cancer cases will be DCIS. Nearly all women diagnosed at this early stage of breast cancer can be cured. A mammogram is the best way to find DCIS early.
