Second Annual Golf for A Cure raises $32,000.00 for breast cancer research
The second annual Marilyn B. Gula Mountains of Hope Foundation golf outing took place on June 17, 2009, despite saturating rains and unpredictable winds. The golfers were drenched, but their spirits were good – and every foursome finished 18 holes!

StoneWater Golf Club was the site once again this year. Cleveland Indians mascot “Slider” welcomed everyone (in his raincoat).
When the golfers came in, there were the traditional prizes:
• Best score (61): David Sotka, Scott Tomko, Larry DeWeese and Bill Dehouske

• Second place (62): Dan Kilday, Michael Haddon, Bob Strepney and Sean Corrigan
• Closest to the Pin: Lori Dorocak and Chris Lachina
• Longest Drive: Al Weinberg
• Straightest Drive: Mike Bambrick
Al Gula, Jr., Foundation Chairman, spoke from the heart about the motivation for the outing: to raise funds for advanced breast cancer research. He recapped the Foundation’s beginning and development and announced that he had begun discussions with University Hospitals of Cleveland’s Ireland Cancer Center regarding a partnership between UH and the Foundation. Funds raised at the Ohio outing will be awarded to research at the Ireland Cancer Center once a project has been determined, allowing the money to remain in Ohio. UH will join Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York; UCSF Breast Cancer Center in California; and TGen in Phoenix as partners in advanced cancer research projects.

Proceeds from this year’s golf outing will add $ 32,000.00 to the Foundation’s investment fund. Details of the recipient project will be announced on this website when finalized.
