2008 Golf for a Cure was a Success . . .

On June 18, 2008, StoneWater Golf Course in Highland Heights, Ohio, was the site of the first annual Golf for a Cure outing benefiting the Marilyn B. Gula Mountains of Hope Foundation. I am happy to report the event exceeded our expectations and raised $35,000 for the Foundation!!! As always, every dollar donated will go directly to advanced breast cancer research.

The day began early, at 7:30 am, with a special visit from Cleveland Indians mascot, "Slider," who is himself a golfer. He welcomed golfers as they arrived and posed for pictures.

Despite uncooperatve weather -- cold, damp and cloudy with intermittent rain -- the foursomes bravely set out to play a course many described as "tough" and "excellent."

After breakfast, lunch, 18 holes of golf, and a putting contest, the group gathered in StoneWater's clubhouse for more food, drink, camaraderie, and raffle prizes / live auction. Scores were tallied, prizes awarded, and the day recapped. First-place was taken by the foursome of Stan Green, Chad Mayer, Gary Eckert and Tyler Lipscomb. The honor of "last place finish" was awarded the team of Bob LaGuardia, Kim Reynolds, Jim Cowan and Michele Seyranian. Their prize was free golf lessons to improve their chances for next year.

A sincere thanks to our generous sponsors: Attevo, Inc., Cleveland Cliffs, KeyCorp, Wendy Belich & the Dillard family, US One Consulting, Jeffrey Lachina, and StoneWater Golf Club. Thanks, too, to those who provided special raffle prizes: the Cleveland Browns, the Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Metroparks Zoo & Rainforest, Cleveland Museum of Art, Coffee Club Cafe, Creations by Celeste, Don's Lighthouse, Great Wolf Lodge, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame & Museum, Heinens, Hunan by the Falls, Johnny's Bar on Fulton, Annette & Gary Paul, Bill and Ann Barry, Trolley Tours of Cleveland, Museum of Contemporary Art, Joseph Scafidi Custom Tailoring, Charee & Frank Giamboi, Stonebrook Golf Academy, StoneWater Golf Course, Cheri Smiley, and WG Technologies. Printing of the programs was provided by Jackie Leavenworth, banners and signs by Tony Anselmo, and postage by Jackie Kelling.

My heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed -- and a special note of appreciation to Tony Anselmo, event chair, Annette Paul, co-chair, and committee members Linda Green, Kathryn Kuhnle, Nate Taylor, Jackie Kelling, and Dolores Stansfield.

Plans are in progress for next year's outings -- in Arizona in the February-March timeframe, and in Ohio in mid-June. Details will be posted on this site as they become available.

With gratitude,
