The Marilyn B Gula Mountains of Hope Foundation is very pleased to announce it’s annual “Golf for a Cure” event. The outing will again be held at the StoneWater Golf Club on Wednesday, June 17, 2009 and will be a shotgun format.

Entry includes arrival package, breakfast, golf, lunch and dinner. Followed by raffles and a live auction. Last year you and other generous supporters helped us raise $35,000 towards funding the research and treatment of advanced breast cancer. We look forward to seeing those of you who golfed last year and extend a warm welcome to our newcomers! Please spread the word. According to the American Cancer Society (ACS), an estimated 182,460 new cases of invasive breast cancer were expected to be diagnosed among women in the United States in 2008. Approximately 1,990 new cases were expected in men. The ACS also reports that an estimated 40,930 breast cancer deaths were expected last year (40,480 women, 450 men).

The Foundation was established in 2003 by Marilyn B. Gula, who was diagnosed with a form of breast cancer in 1996. Although controlled by powerful drugs, the cancer continued to recur until the drugs were ineffective and she lost her battle with this insidious disease on July 26, 2006. Marilyn’s husband, Allen J. Gula, Jr., changed the foundation’s name to “The Marilyn B. Gula Mountains of Hope Foundation” to honor her memory and continue the work she began.

The mission of the Marilyn B. Gula Mountains of Hope Foundation is dedicated to providing “hope” to women suffering with advanced breast cancer. Every dollar donated is applied directly to fulfill the foundation’s mission of funding highly regarded researchers who study advanced stages of breast cancer, with the hope of making inroads to improve the detection, treatment and management of this deadly disease.
